Srđan Aleksić
Srđan Aleksić is a lawyer from Niš, Serbia, and the author of two legal studies on which Legal Smart draws: Projektili pravde (Niš, 2024), on the legal, medical and environmental consequences of the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, and Genocid u međunarodnom i nacionalnom krivičnom pravu (Banja Luka, 2025), a comparative monograph on genocide in international and national criminal law.
He collaborates with Legal Smart as an expert contributor. He writes Aleksić Perspectives, signed essays on law and responsibility, and his research is one of the sources Legal Smart’s reporters work from. Articles based on that research are written and edited independently.
Professional work
His professional work includes representing claimants in proceedings in Serbia concerning the health consequences alleged to follow exposure to depleted uranium used in 1999. Wherever Legal Smart reports on subjects connected to those proceedings, his role is disclosed in the article.
Books
Projektili pravde (Niš, 2024). A study of the 1999 bombing and its consequences: the wartime record, the medical evidence gathered by Serbian doctors, the scientific literature on depleted uranium, and the Italian court rulings in cases brought by soldiers who served in the Balkans.
Genocid u međunarodnom i nacionalnom krivičnom pravu (Banja Luka, 2025). A comparative analysis of genocide and related crimes in international law and in the criminal codes of the states that emerged from Yugoslavia, including the laws that punish genocide denial.
